Facial Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery
Complex Facial Fractures and Lacerations
With the advent of Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) protocol and establishment of Level 1 Trauma Centers across the country, patients are receiving the best surgical care after a devastating accident. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) play an integral role in all Level 1 Trauma Centers as members of the Facial Trauma Team, along with their colleagues in Plastic Surgery and ENT. OMFSs have a unique perspective in dealing with facial fractures, because of their background in orthognathic surgery (corrective jaw surgery). OMFSs have a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the facial skeleton, esthetic norms, and techniques to rigidly fixate broke facial bones to assure healing and to minimize secondary deformities. OMFSs also have a thorough understanding and vast experiences in the management of soft tissue injuries (lacerations, avulsions) that commonly occur after a motorvehicle accident or altercation.

Dr. Jo gained tremendous experience in facial trauma and reconstructive surgery from Grady Memorial Hospital, which is one of the country's busiest Level 1 Trauma Centers. He has seen and treated the most unique and devastating facial injuries that not many doctors encounter during their lifetime. The OMFS service at Grady is recognized as one of the best when managing facial trauma.

Currently, Dr. Jo is a part-time attending surgeon and member of the Facial Trauma Team at Grady Memorial Hospital, primarily focusing on facial trauma and reconstructive surgery. He also takes call for Facial Trauma at Emory Crawford Long Hospital, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and Northside Hospital. He also performs reconstructive surgery to correct any post-traumatic deformities and scar revisions to minimize any noticeable facial scars. Many procedures may be performed in our office or outpatient surgery center with general anesthesia or deep intravenous sedation, which significantly reduces costs for our patients.
